Dear Friends,

With a storm inundating our coast, we have postponed today’s event to a future date.

You can still take action! Parliament returns Monday, and we need politicians to know that there can be no delay on permanent resident status for all.

Send a message to Ministers and your MP by adding your name here: www.StatusForAll.caEven if you've already signed before, add your name again to send a new email. In this way, MPs will be met with thousands of emails when they return to work next week.

This storm reminds us about the essential link between climate justice and migrant justice.

Myriad factors drive migration, but more and more, our changing climate is playing a bigger role – whether people are forced to leave their homes because of disasters, or because of loss of livelihood and shrinking economic opportunities. Canada is actively fueling this displacement, through its disproportionately high emissions and continued expansion of the fossil fuels that drive the climate crisis. And when those migrants arrive here, they are streamed into dangerous, difficult and exploitable jobs, without access to most services – sometimes directly in the fossil fuel industry or doing service work in those communities.

This summer, people across the country have suffered the horrifying impacts of the climate crisis: heatwaves, unprecedented wildfires, heavy smoke, and floods; homes burned to the ground and cities evacuated. The disasters have taken an especially heavy toll on migrants, who don’t have access to the same rights and protections afforded to most in Canada even as they are at the frontlines of climate-impacted industries including agriculture, fisheries, and tourism. Ensuring permanent resident status for all will ensure those who are at the frontline of the crisis are protected, and will help repay Canada’s historic climate debt.

Join the Migrant Rights Network in telling the federal government to support the regularization of all undocumented people in Canada here.

In February of 2023, Migrant Workers Alliance for Change launched their “Regularize Now” quilt project at the FCJ Refugee Centre in Toronto. The quilt was created by migrant workers and their supporters. It will be coming to Atlantic Canada as part of a cross-country tour to raise awareness about the Status for All campaign. Visit this site to read the story and watch a short video of the launch featuring images from the quilt with their creators, and a powerful speech given by one of the members of FCJ’s Youth Group: https://www.fcjrefugeecentre.org/2023/02/a-sign-of-our-strength-and-unity-the-launching-of-the-regularize-now-quilt-project/

On December 16, 2022, migrant workers and organizers from Migrant Workers Alliance for Change visited the Shediac office of Liberal MP Dominic LeBlanc to deliver a letter asking him to support permanent residency status for all in Canada. Migrant rights organizers say such a move would benefit approximately 1.7 million migrants in Canada, including 500,000 undocumented people and their families. Read the news story here.
